Loneliness does not come from having no people around you, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to you. - Carl G. Carl Jung Most people seek out and maintain relationships and friendships because they want to share the things that are important to them. When we are unable to share whats important to us with those we love - because of fear, shame, or judgment - a painful process of separation and compartmentalization ensues. We start to only show parts of ourselves and cut off or hide the other parts. Learning how to listen for understanding and react with empathy to those we love is therefore one of the most powerful and healing gifts we can give because it helps them remain whole and integrated. If you would like to learn more about how to do this or need help practicing, contact Angie Tsiatsos Phillips, LPC, the Program Manager of our Couples Clinic: Relational Intelligence Skills Group, and she will help guide you through the process.
