Long Reflection: In these last few weeks Chris Hopkins and I - TopicsExpress

Long Reflection: In these last few weeks Chris Hopkins and I worked tirelessly to get some ideas out there in our live workshop and webinar. Both were entirely different yet totally close to my heart, with a common thread of empowerment through story. Obviously, I have a passion for Tarot, and both of these offerings were centered around the use of Tarot beyond divinatory- or reading- work. To be clear, I love readings, however, the lynchpin that really caused me to fall head-over-heels in love with Tarot is its power to facilitate internal change for ourselves. It is my position that readings are meaningful, catalyzing and special, but personal growth work is where the venerable rubber meets the road and one gets to really MAKE something of this system or collection of archetypes. Having said that, I often feel a bit like a loner in my work. Being from a multi-generational family of rebels and social agitators seeking change, I have a unique understanding and relationship to Tarot. I see its use in teasing apart social spells that are cast upon us, thus keeping us disempowered. This lens can be both exciting and terrifying. There are those to whom this work speaks volumes, and there are others whom are utterly uninterested in exploring this terrain, which is perhaps the case with all concentrated material. Last solstice I found myself in the middle of an unraveling of sorts which was heartbreaking. I witnessed the fall of a leader, nay a community, whom I had once admired and poured my own love into. I hoped to find a new way of living in that community. I had hoped to grow there. Indeed I did grow, though not in ways I had at all anticipated. I grew into my own convictions. I grew into my own personal rebellion, which inevitably required that I build my own ironic structures. That community challenged me beyond my wildest musings, and I am thankful. Without its core ideals I might not have landed in this new middle place of sorting out my own unique path. For all that transpired last solstice I am thankful. It is another year, another wave of change is upon me, and as I take in the lay of the land I can see ahead of me, I am inspired by two things: 1. the hot, molten center of the City Mystic project remains clear, strong and bright- to create image bodies of cities around the world whose monuments, architecture and cultural cues reveal their relationship to the Occult, power and social change. It occurs to me that it may take a few decks to really communicate what I see in these cities and these decks, but I have faith that I will get there, and come ever closer with each deck we produce. Paris, I cannot wait for you
