Long-awaited rules have been established to put teeth in a 2008 law requiring doctors and insurers to treat mental illness the same as physical illness, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will announce today, a department spokesman said. Sebelius will make the announcement in a speech at the Rosalynn Carter Symposium on Mental Health Policy in Atlanta, spokesman Mark Weber said. The move will greatly increase access to mental health care and services for Americans. The Mental Health Parity Law of 2008 was signed by President George W. Bush. I figured out years ago I had a problem with depression. My mom was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia (had to look up spelling lol) Pictures talked to her, God talked to her,Frank Sinatra was her hubby, she once thought God send a bee to kill me when I visited her in the hospital (still laugh about that and Frank). I lucked out tho since it runs in the family, also Kath has mental health insurance... See only 1 in 5 insurance companies admit its a medical problem. I got help admitted to myself I was bummed out and sought help. Obamacare will cover everyone IF it can get the website fixed,IF it is rewritten that insurance companies pay a HEFTY fine for dropping people.See the main problem is the Government only slaps them on the wrist with a minimal fine. Im soooo glad Mental Illness issues are FINALLY getting a spotlight. My hope now is people have to admit they have a problem.
