Long before Jesus was ever referred to as Son of God the Roman - TopicsExpress

Long before Jesus was ever referred to as Son of God the Roman emperors had been referring to themselves as God, Son of God, Lord, Lord of Lords, Prince of Peace, and Savior. Those titles were political as much as theological. The very first Christian creed was Jesus is Lord! - and that carried with it the politically subversive implication .... and Caesar isnt! In the synoptic Gospels, Jesus referred to himself as Son of Man - as anthropos - the human one. Its only in Johns Gospel that this shifted to Son of God- and even there, Jesus didnt overtly refer to himself that way. Merely, you say that I am. That said, if it is an idolatry to refer to Jesus as God, I think its a minor one and that God is okay with it. - Roger Wolsey - adapted from Kissing Fish: christanity for people who dont like christanity npr.org/2014/04/07/300246095/if-jesus-never-called-himself-god-how-did-he-become-one?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=npr&utm_campaign=nprnews&utm_content=04072014
