Long drives often make me emotional. Todays set me thinking about the referendum, instead of lost loved ones as is usual. As an expat of now 20 years (tho I spent large parts of the last 5 in Scotland) Ive lost count of how often Ive been asked for my hypothetical vote. So hat in ring time: As the car ate up the miles I cooked up a complex metaphor for my feelings about how - as a competent gardener and cook - I COULD grow my own wheat, mill my flour and make my own bread, something most of us consume daily. But instead I like to buy good bread when I can, eat average bread a lot of the time, and when time and whimsy allows, bake my own from good flour made and supplied by others. It works. Ive other things to do too. You get it Im sure. But really my plea for togetherness is based on those same 20 years spent gladly making most of my work amongst some of the UKs most disenfranchised communities. I get about a lot. Listen, Scotland: The real battle is between the London-centric power base and the rest of us. Not between 2 countries. Dont abandon us, when solidarity can achieve so much more.
