Long posting - make sure you have plenty of coffee .... Here is personal note to the players at this year’s SJ Sax Xmas .... Ok, here goes. After a couple of hours crunching numbers, here are the totals from this past Saxmas: 204 players, of which 15 were walk ups (some informed me via e mail that they would attend, pay at the door, and I did pre reg cards for them - not walkups) 7 paid via snail mail 186 paid via PayPal 197 pre registered 8 no shows 59 new players this year ..... Instruments: 3 Sopranino / 2 C Soprano / 2 Saxellos 21 Sopranos / 84 Altos / 4 C Melody / 51 Tenors 31 Baritones / 4 Basses / 2 Sarrusophone 15 songs - of which 5 were played the year before new selections - Wexford Carol, Merry Grinchmas and Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24 - no revisions ** there are now 48 selections in our Saxmas music library ..... Thank you to several people - to the Del Mar HS music program for supplying coffee and other liquid refreshments (I trust everyone made a small donation to help their program); to Donna, my wife, for putting together many of the baked goods; a special thanks to Shelly for helping us for the past 21 years of Saxmas; to Robert Smith for having the sound system at Xmas In The Park; to Kathy for helping on the tech end (website and Pay Pal), and to the volunteers that helped that morning with registration, shirts, food, chairs, hold harmless signatures, and everything else that made our little gathering a great success. And to those that helped clean the room up after rehearsal, you gave me enough time to grab a bite to eat before we began our shows ..... Another beautiful day at Christmas In The Park with no rain, and a wonderful audience at Vallco. And a shout out to Fred Wahl and his wife Roxanne for recording this year’s performance in Vallco. If you have not ordered your CD copy, please do so soon. fred@wogwoe is the address, or (408) 262 - 0471 is the number. He does this as a ‘hobby’ to support our Saxmas event - please let’s support him so that we may continue to get quality recordings of our performances. Ok now, for my goals for 2015 Saxmas. I am planning on keeping 6 tunes from this year (Grinchmas and Sarajevo being 2 of them), and adding 3 new ones again for next year. Plus, a couple of revisions of tunes we’ve done in the past (I have my ‘to do’ list of music done for the next several years .....). You can suggest tunes, but they might not get looked at much til after 2016. Donna posted a nice video/recording of Sarajevo 12/24 on facebook: (facebook/video.php?v=10203937853905199&set=vb.1187598954&type=2&theater¬if_t=like_tagged) I was nice to break the 200 player mark again. We should be able to beat our record of 224, if every other player brought just one person. Although it was nice to see 59 new players, there were a lot of regulars that didn’t come this year. Someday, it would be nice to have a gathering afterwards so I can actually meet some of the players! Like a Chillis or Chevys, or TGIF. I know many of you by name, instrument or e mail only ...... The word is out again to help find a ‘more reasonable’ affordable rehearsal site for next year. If need be, we can use Del Mar again, but we might need to cut back on a few things. I am pursuing one lead, but could use more. If anyone out there has had some success with Trademarks and Copyright issues/Publishing, I’m all ears (and thumbs). Send me a name or two of websites I can go to, that maybe you have had success with. There are several tunes that I would like to get to publish (I can publish from my own home, but face copyright issues). I hope that everyone had a fantastic Christmas and we’ll all be looking at a wonderful New Year. Thanks again for all that took time during their busy holiday season to come and spend a little time with us. 6th Sac Saxmas = 12/5/2015 22nd San Jose Saxmas = 12/19/2015. See ya all next year, Ray Bernd
