Long status warning: Today was a big day for me.... the OFFICIAL birth of TELLY LEUNG PRODUCTIONS (thanks to a lot of help from Craig Manzino)... In 2012, I co-produced my first album (with some very generous help and support from producing mentors like Elliott Masie, Lorenzo Thione, Hunter Arnold and Wendy Gillespie) - and musical collaborators like Gary Adler and Mary Ann McSweeney - and the amazing Michael Croiter)...then came Grind The Movie (thanks to Zachary Lee-Halley and the Chemically Altered family) and the Grind Soundtrack (w/ my buds at Yellow Sound Label featuring some kick ass music by Selda Sahin and Derek Gregor). Then, a big corporate show down in Orlando for Mr. Masie - which inspired my next project: Seasons of Broadway - a concert series to showcase my uber talented, diverse, unique, fabulous friends and colleagues that Ive had the pleasure of working with on Broadway (and I have my producing partners in crime, Mike Karns and Rich Aronstein to thank for that one). We are partnering with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Frank Conway for a big event in Palm Springs on 3/28, and we will be at doing our first NYC show on 3/30 at BB KINGS (Jesse Vargas and I have some new musical tricks up our sleeve!!!) I LOVE acting and performing (aint hanging up the dance belt yet) and at first, I honestly had mixed feelings about producing and being labeled as a producer. But, Im also excited to embrace the next chapter (after some nudging from Angie Canuel and Charlie Alterman - and some damn good wine the other night!)... Which is producing (for now).... and, who knows? My friend / colleague Stafford Arima says Im a closet director - and I hope I have some amazing friends to play with when I decide to embrace THAT next chapter and come out of the directing closet!!! heres to CONSTANTLY redefining ourselves, creating work when there isnt any, and having a creative sandbox filled with my talented friends / colleagues who always say yes - and refusing to be pigeon-holed as JUST one thing!
