Look. Let me say this another way. If Jesse Jackson wants to come - TopicsExpress

Look. Let me say this another way. If Jesse Jackson wants to come here and show concern about and protest poverty, joblessness, racial segregation, graduation rates, and any number of disparities that are real and highly concerning in this city, I say good for him. Everyone should care about those things, and if he wants to come here to highlight them, more power to him. I also think hes right that we need a more concerted, focused urban reconstruction plan in Milwaukee. The disparities in this state and city are deeply troubling. The roots of those issues are exceptionally complex. Our leaders should be doing what they can to affect positive change (although I think they are trying). However, he didnt just come here and talk about those things; he decided to also label a cop who was found to have used lawful self defense by the system of justice we have in this country a mentally unstable killer. He evoked the case of a horrific southern lynching (although he was talking about the role of mothers) in talking about that case. That highly charged reference involved a young boy who was horrifically murdered in cold blood for flirting with a white woman. It seems an incendiary and false analogy to a case in which a cop was found to have protected himself while under attack with his own baton. Furthermore, use of force is on the decline in Milwaukee and is an exceptionally rare event, context which he ignores. Jackson also said a man was unarmed who was in fact armed with a cops baton and was swinging it at the cop. In the words, once again, of Daniel Patrick Moyhnihan, Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.
