Look Whos Coming Back to Town !!! Yay !!!.. a little bit of Canty University -back to the Arts Centre The University of Canterbury’s Music and Classic departments are coming back to the Art Centre site, with the announcement of a new tenancy agreement today. The University will lease the Chemistry Building and plans an extensive fit out of the interior of the Category 1 listed heritage building. Located on Hereford Street, the building was originally designed by Collins & Harman and completed in 1910. A programme of restoration work on the building commenced in September 2013 and is anticipated to take 18 months. The end date will align with completion of College Hall and the Clock Tower, as well as the Boys’ High building, in 2015. So there will be a return of faculty, students and their families and friends to this part of the city will be an incredible boost – both for the Arts Centre and the many organisations and businesses that will occupy the rest of the site and surround us in the cultural precinct. Great news !!
