Look at what I can do! Its me, Harriet, the chihuahua mix (thats what they say on my card, anyway) who likes to pace for exercise. My buddy Chico got this crazy idea to create an art gallery of doggie masterpieces to encourage people to come visit us at the shelter. So of course, I just had to get in on the action. In the first photo below, I am deep in thought in the middle of creating my picture. Chico warned me that the creative process is not as easy as it looks, and boy, was he right. I worked hard to get just the look I was after. Unlike Chico, I chose all bright, warm colors, because I am a gal with a sunny personality. Maybe Ill call it an abstract self-portrait. What do you think? The second photo shows me after I am finished painting, as I relaxed and decompressed with a big rubber ball I found in the studio (okay, its a bonding room, but its a studio while Im painting). The last photo shows the pictures that Chico and I made, drying prior to display. Didnt we do a good job for beginners? I tried my best. Remember, I have no thumbs and I have no art training. I am a true amateur, but I am an enthusiastic one. Come out to the shelter soon and meet the artist! In August, we will be showing off all the artwork created by adoptable dogs. For now, though, Chico and I are the only ones who have completed a painting. But that will change in the next few days. Maybe you can even watch someone working on a picture when you come visit. And dont worry, its okay to adopt me. I can leave my masterpiece behind for them to remember me by. After all, getting people to come so they can fall in love with a dog or cat and adopt someone is the whole point of Chicos crazy idea. So dont disappoint him. Come see us and just try to avoid falling in love with me and taking me home. Yeah, yeah, Im supposed to tell you that Ive been spayed and microchipped and tested for heartworm (and was negative) and have all my basic shots: rabies, parvo/distemper, and bordatella (kennel cough). I am available at the Carroll County (Georgia) Animal Shelter, where the adoption fee for dogs is $115.
