Looked up songs that define LA. Had this sudden epiphany that people who move to LA see the city totally differently than I do. Are they really singing about my hometown? I wonder. The names and the places are the same, but it feels utterly foreign. Maybe thats what it means to move somewhere emotionally. Even if youve lived in a place for years, but when each street or cafe, ... each person you meet represents something or becomes an experience ... then youre still a traveler. I never felt like that in New York, but I definitely feel that way now. Or maybe thats the difference between locals and outsiders - lots of people move to LA, but maybe not everyone becomes from LA. When you do, I think its just another nice place to live. Maybe with time, the rock stars and rappers, the parties on Mulholland, waking up in Venice, and this fake hipster angst shit I hear everywhere ... it fades into routine, Ralphs, and rent. Traffic, friends, sunshine. Happiness. Arco. Vons. A new restaurant opened. A show maybe. Barbeques. This and that freeway. Run to Costco. Hiking in the hills. Dog friendly brunch. Waiting for rain. Its a kind of seasonless, blissful world where we go about our lives. #homesick
