Looking Up: Thursday, August 7 A SINGLE 4 BILLION MILE STROKE LANDS ON THE GREEN FOR AN EASY CHIP SHOT! Feared by our not so distant ancestors as harbingers of doom; we have now put a far flung machine made from the raw materials of stone, oil and sand, in a seemingly impossible rendezvous and orbit with the object of their fears. This over 4 billion mile cosmic green shot included five trips around the sun and a number of precisely executed engine burns and maneuvers. Keep in mind also that the target was moving at incredible speed. And now that we have landed on the green, we will now attempt a 26 mile chip shot. The spacecraft now in a 26 mile orbit around the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, a 2.5-mile-wide (4-kilometer-wide) conglomeration of ice and dust thats been compared to a rubber ducky will soon release a landing probe. The probe will be directed toward the comet and will attempt to land on the surface of the comet and has auger screws on its feet to screw itself into the surface. If successful, the probe is loaded with instruments and cameras to glean all sorts of information about the comet and send it back to us.
