Thursday: How To Incorporate Behavior Modification Into Occupational Therapy Practice When Working With Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders Presenter: Leah Dunleavy, M.A., BCBA, OTR/L, OTD Content Area: Pediatrics, Developmental Disabilities Presentation Description: The purpose of this course is to provide strategies to occupational therapy practitioners on incorporating applied behavior analysis (ABA) into their practice when working with children with autism. Participants will learn about basic ABA theories, incorporating these theories into OT practice, data collection methods, and educating parents and teachers on using these methods. Presenter: Patty Vazquez, MHS, OTR/L Content Area: Early Intervention, Pediatrics Presentation Description: This course will explore the unique opportunities and vital role that OT has in providing ervices in the home through the Illinois Early Intervention system. Areas addressed in the session will include: Cultural awareness, working with interpreters, using items in the home for play and home activities programs, supervising COTAs, safety awareness, AT equipment and request process, preparing families for transition out of EI and working as a multi-disciplinary team member within the practice scope of OT. Friday: Making A Y’s Choice: Integrating Occupational Therapy Services Into A Community YMCA Presenter: Stacie Young, MHS, OTR/L Content Area: Community Practice, Early Intervention Course Description: Learn how an occupational therapist has permeated a YMCA. The vision of the Stephens Family YMCA in Champaign is ‘to be a ray of hope in our community that inspires people to better’.
