Looking for a tax deduction and a way to help others? Forward: Greetings from ICISF! On February 12, 2009 Continental Flight #3407 crashed into a house in Clarence Center, New York after experiencing an aerodynamic stall. All 49 people on board were killed along with one person on the ground. The Western New York Stress Reduction Program, in coordination with the Emergency Mental Health Sector of the Countys Medical Reserve Corp. was activated immediately. Over the course of the next 13 months, a wide variety of CISM services were offered to first responders, disaster workers and volunteers, emergency managers, local, state and federal personnel, and numerous others in need of intervention, support, and information. Had it not been for the provision of comprehensive services, continuing assessment of need, and extensive follow-up services, many individuals would not have experienced a reduction of acute stress symptoms. Ongoing contact with affected personnel indicated that the services they received were effective and helped them to regain their sense of control and feel normal again. Thanks to the ICISF for developing and delivering training that teaches us how to help countless individuals, families and groups recover from critical incident stress. - Bonita Fraser, MS, CTS, FAAETS This is just one of the thousands of stories from a myriad of different occupations about the need for, and success of, Critical Incident Stress Management.
