Looking for new music? Awhile ago Liam Smyth asked me to list my top 12 albums. So Im finally getting around to it. These are 12 albums I can listen to beginning to end without skipping a song (maybe one or two :P ) These are in no particular order, way too difficult to sort your favorite music. Also, basically add In my humble opinion to everything I say about these albums/songs. How to Train Your Dragon Score - John Powell https://youtube/watch?v=SagTkN19veU ///One of my favorite movie scores. I remember the first time I saw the trailer for this movie I thought it looked like complete crap but its actually turned into my favorite animated movie (other than Toy Story 3.) There are multiple melodies scattered throughout and you get a taste of each in most of the songs. For me, that makes a solid album./// Mothership - Led Zeppelin youtube/watch?v=Sw0aigLNVLQ&list=PLbyMlPW0GuUUfo51sbra1zKhHAevJj7-x&feature=share&index=1 ///A compilation of Zeppelin songs. This is the album that got me into this band. My top 5 songs from these 24 are All My Love, Stairway, Babe Im Gonna Leave You, Over the Hills, Kashmir but they are all awesome. Really good variety in this one./// The Best of Simon and Garfunkel - Simon and Garfunkel https://itunes.apple/us/album/the-best-of-simon-garfunkel/id192775840 ///I couldnt find a link to this on Youtube unfortunately, but iTunes link is above. S&G are great. Top 5 from this are I am a Rock, Homeward Bound, Sound of Silence, The Boxer, Bridge Over Troubled Water./// The Division Bell - Pink Floyd https://youtube/watch?v=hVfYVNALIS0 ///17:50. Ready yourself for some awesome guitar. There will be more Floyd on this list because I cant just pick one album. This was their latest one from 20 years ago. I would say this is good starter Floyd as most the songs on this album follow some pretty mainstream rhythms and song compositions./// Revenge of the Sith Score - John Williams youtube/watch?v=rZ1xVKyEEeg&list=PLDA8AB0D75771F1DA&feature=share&index=2 ///I listened to a lot of John Williams stuff growing up. This is my favorite stuff right here. Anakins Betrayal is my favorite song on this album. This score tells the story of the third movie really well just through sounds, even though the movie was pretty bad in terms of acting. I love when songs can put imagery in your head and these ones definitely do./// Octavarium - Dream Theater youtube/watch?v=RNoZyU1QgvU&feature=share&list=PLJx8tD50QfUT7t4s8HJ1wQ35aBh_zTDVR ///I dont listen to much metal, but the metal I listen to I listen to a lot. Dream Theater is in my top 5 bands for sure. Octavarium has a good variety of slow and fast songs. I find every song to be listenable, which is rare for an entire album. The first song is part of their Twelve-Step Suite, so if you like this Id highly recommend that. The lost song is 20 minutes long and pretty freaking powerful. So many melodies and rhythms!/// Babel - Mumford and Sons youtube/watch?v=iWza_On7ajs&feature=share&list=PL3BC882DFBE9CB8DB ///Another album where I can listen and enjoy every song on the list. I cant even list my favorites from here because they are all so good. If you like this, their first album, Sigh No More is really good too. Only downside Ive found so far is that all their songs sound super similar, kind of like.... Back In Black - AC/DC https://youtube/watch?v=K5nITBvS-Os&list=PL8A37048615C10F51 ///So good. The whole thing. So good./// The Glorius Dead - The Heavy youtube/watch?v=L3FfSyzXM44&list=ALGLx1orRGw4V35VYGT_9VAiuoNagP1xVg&feature=share ///Strong crunchy beats and catchy melodies. Their other albums are equally good but I could only pick one. Singer doesnt have the greatest voice, but thats okay because the musics just so good you dont really notice. Raw is what I would define this album as./// Resistance - Muse youtu.be/c901NUazf3g ///Im linking my favorite part of this one, Exogenesis Symphony. 12 minutes comprised of 3 songs. One of my favorite songs for sure. The definition of Rock Opera. The instrumental version I like just as much, but couldnt find a link. The rest of the album is really listenable as well, with Resistance being my second favorite from it. Seriously though. That 2:54. Holy./// Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd youtube/watch?v=9i-tsSswIro&feature=share&list=PL95407CBE443196A0&index=8 ///This has the best ending to any album Ive ever listened too. The only song I dont really like is Money, which sucks because thats on the radio all the time haha. The overarching theme in this is mental illness I think. There is no dark side of the moon really, matter of fact its all dark./// Adore - Smashing Pumpkins youtube/watch?v=o_3LhYwbN-U&list=PLVRf53BCkGME9LG2szkTOdD3irJ4f-idU&feature=share ///Warning: Super emo music. But good emo music. I had to pick a Smashing Pumpkins album, and I think this one feels the most complete to me. Like the whole thing feels very connected. Siamese Dream takes a close second./// Transformers Soundtrack - Steve Jablonsky https://youtube/watch?v=8ptdBV-mtJc ///Favorite score of all time ever. So many melodies and variations on melodies. Ive listened to this way too much./// Brothers and El Camino - The Black Keys https://youtube/watch?v=eys28kN3Bvg https://youtube/watch?v=Sbp7prjDf5Q ///Really couldnt pick between these two. El Camino is some of the best driving music ever. Brothers is some of the best working music ever./// Well I think that was probably more than 12 but oh wells. Honorable mentions go to Queen, The Beatles, Guns and Roses, Hans Zimmer, Dire Straits, Daft Punk, CCR, Coldplay . All great bands but just no room on my list for them : (
