Looking on facebook, I read “I will miss my mama.” It was posted by Donna Brownings daughter. Donna and I stayed in touch with each other after she moved away. We supported each other with prayers and tears as she went through cancer and I through my divorce and heart failure diagnosis. She survived the cancer but the removal of organs led to digestive issues. For most of the past year, she was on a feeding tube. My dear friend loved food and I had to smile at all the food postings that she put on facebook--foods that she could no longer have. Donna fell off the radar in November. No responses to my emails, so I called her husband Bruce who said she was in the hospital. I was able to talk to her and he relayed my message (Donna was deaf). He suggested I write a letter, which I did. I will miss Donna. She was a true friend I am hoping that she is now one of my guardian angels (I need so many to guide me through the day). One of my favorite memories of Donna was when she would skip Sunday School and come to the restaurant where we would binge on beignets at the bar and talk until she had to leave for church service. Rest in Jesus, Donna. I love you. Isa was with me when I found out. My therapy was to go out on the deck and paint a memorial Valentine for Donna with Isa while listening to Christmas carols. Donna would have approved.
