Looking out to be or ...? Reading: Proverbs 27: 1-27 Everybody - TopicsExpress

Looking out to be or ...? Reading: Proverbs 27: 1-27 Everybody needs at least one or two close friends. A small boy defined a friend as someone who knows all about you and loves you despite that Ralph Waldo Emerson said. A friend may well be recognized as a masterpiece of nature Henry Durbanville made this observation about friendship: A friend is the first person to enter when the world goes. Solomon wrote much about friendship as: Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy (Prov.27: 6) Never abandon a friend, either yours or your father. When calamity happens, you will not get help from your brother. Best is to go to a neighbor than a sibling who lives far away (Prov.27: 10) or Proverbs 17:17 tells us: A friend is always loyal. We can not improve on those statements. Having someone who is faithful to us under any circumstances, is one of the finest blessings of life. The support and encouragement that only a close friend can offer is greatly needed when the burdens of life weigh heavily on us. Jesus, of course, is the quintessential best friend, because he gave his life for his friends (John 15:13). Also in Proverbs 18:24 it gets our attention with respect to an important point and takes us beyond the description of what it means to be a friend. He tells us that: ... the true friend remains more loyal than a brother. The implication is clear: loyalty must begin with us. We must take the lead in developing relationships with others. We give to others what we desire for ourselves. I went out to look for a friend, but I could not find a single one; I went out to be a friend, and friends were everywhere! When it comes to friends, one must be one!
