Looking through some drawers, I found a program for a Teacher Recognition Banquet in 1959 honoring S. Elizabeth Jones, who was retiring. Some interesting facts I did not know, she came to Harrisville in 1930 teaching Art, Seventh and Eighth grade English and History, also Elementary Algebra. In 1931 to 1932 she taught Intermediate Algebra, Geometry, and all Art classes, 1933 to 1934, along with Mr. Bill, the Principal and Mr Sealy, District Superintendent, she organized the first Homemaking Department at Harrisville High School, it consisted of a kitchen with no sink or stove, and a dining room with no furniture. She also accompanied the Girls Basketball teams to all away games. In 1942 she was chosen to work on a committee to revise the NYS Syllabus in Homemaking. she continued to teach Homemaking until 1953, she also taught Mechanical Drawing until 1952. In 1953, she set up and organized Art courses in Harrisville as a unit in grades K-12. She then taught the Art courses for two years. In 1955 she went back to teaching Homemaking until her retirement. To attain her certification in her many areas of expertise she attended summer school at Syracuse University, Cortland, and Columbia University continuosly from 1927 to 1944! Quite a lady!!
