Lord, make me like you. A prayer saints tend to always pray, until it gets answered. In theory, wanting to be just like Christ SOUNDS good but when we have to go through anything like he did, we want to back out. Being Christlike doesnt mean instantly having enough faith to walk on water, turn water into wine or even spit in the dirt to heal the blind. Though Jesus would like our faith to be impeccable, we have to know what were asking when we say, make me like you. Who he is: -He is love. (He doesnt have love, he IS love.) -He is patient (waiting for all to reach repentance, wishing ill toward no one.) -He has no darkness in Him at all. -He is holy. -He is the word. -He is spirit. -He is joy. -He is peace -He is fair -He is kind -He is gentle -He is forgiving -He is courageous -He is truthful -He is dependable/reliable -He is generous (esteeming others as better than himself) -He is encouraging -He is reliable -He is wisdom -He is attentive -He is compassionate -He is obedient -He is a communicator -He is creative -He is determined -He is merciful -He is loyal -He is faithful -He is supportive -He is a teacher -He is understanding How to be like Jesus: Having these characteristics will be a good key to help you enjoy life as well as the people around you. As human beings however, were not capable of carrying these traits on our own no matter how hard we try or how good of a person we are. We are made to be dependent on The Lord and in order to have childlike faith, we must be completely depending on Him. How to be dependent: 1.) Pray- were instructed to seek His face always, that doesnt exclude when were seeking to walk like him. 2.) Seek God in ALL things- often times Christians tend to make rational decisions because theyre so sure that God has instructed them to do something that they havent even yet prayed about. Also, we stay in a current situation not really knowing what the will of God is for our lives and so we become independent of ourselves. 3.) Trust God- if you dont trust Him just as a child trusts there will be food ready whenever theyre hungry, you will not be dependent on Him. But again, never act on something that youre uncertain is the will of Gods. Sometimes were unsure if we hear Gods voice or if its our own flesh. In this case, pray, seek, knock. He will reveal the answer in a way that only He can. Applying the word: Praying to be like Jesus is a great prayer to pray, however, if you dont apply the word, how do you know what He is like? You have to know how to balance prayer and reading. Get to know Jesus through the word and allow Him to know you through prayer. Prayer is the covenant where Christ hears our heart, the bible is the spoken word of God which every word He breathed out of His mouth. Studying the Word: We all study the word of God differently but the best way to do so is to let the Holy Spirit lead you on what to read. Whatever He is placing on your heart. The word is our life instructions and our daily bread. If we go a period of time without eating we will grow sick and eventually die. Just like if we go a long time without feeding our spirit, it will grow sick and eventually die (fall into sin, depression etc.) Dont make reading the word of God a chore but rather a spiritual growth exercise. Reading it without absorbing it will defeat the purpose of reading (rebuke the spirit of ADD) Believe the word: Sometimes as believers we say, okay God, youre big and powerful, loving, merciful and full of grace, but I just dont believe youre all that to me. Satan will tell you all of these lies just like he does with every believer. If we believe it were saying, youre right satan, I agree to everything you say. The devil is a liar! He doesnt tell the truth! How can you be in a covenant with Jesus Christ while believing the lies of the enemy? Rebuke him and move on from it. Dont revisit the topic of Does this apply to me too? Remember, Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Once we die to ourselves and do all these things, it becomes easy to live life Christlike. When we draw near to him, we take on his spirit. When we find out who he is through the word, we mimic him. So if youre seeking to be like him (which I hope you are), pray for wisdom to make Godly decisions, strength to stay faithful in your walk and understanding to know why the Holy Spirit has us doing certain things. Also, pray to walk in love because Jesus made it very clear that love is the most important aspect of life in our walk with God and others.
