Lord, please take care of my brothers and sisters in the Philippines. Prayer inspires, and stokes in us more empathy. It is an acknowledgement that not everything is within current human control, and perhaps inspire us to do something about this deficiency. It is an act of humility and appreciation that we are not know it alls. It is a public sign of care for those we cannot touch. It is publicised sign of love for those we cann see. It enables us to care even if we cannot physically do something. For those who do not pray, and cant do anything about the situation, they can only shrug their shoulders, and maybe say, oh terrible!, or press the like button, and then go and have a cup of tea. That just practices one in inhumanity. Prayer addresses that by making the sign of care longer and gives it more depth. There are lots of psychological benefits to it, and perhaps, spiritual ones as well. That said, do not allow prayer to be an end in itself, but make your prayers come true to the best of your ability by doing the best that you can for those in need. In that, your prayer has worked. The west has largely become a heathen and hedonistic place where many are besotted with self-centred and ignorant arrogance. Dont pay them any mind when it comes to their views on religion as they are unexposed to the perspectives and histories of others, and didnt have much of a really spiritual history either that was not simultaneously tainted with and led by elitist greed for wealth and power - the Church of England itself has a wealthy privileged Queen as its head, and that says much about their understanding of faith and religion. So many of these people do not know enough to actually be taken seriously. In your looking up to the west for whatever reasons, just dont forget to give them their appropriate place, as lesser gods.
