Loss of Public Confidence and Trust in the Political - TopicsExpress

Loss of Public Confidence and Trust in the Political Administration is chiefly causing the exponential spread of Ebola in Liberia. For some reason, I thought to remain quiet but I think silence at this time of our national crisis is just not right. I will speak my inner voice knowing that they have nothing to offer but to resort to invectives, rants and insults on my personality. I heard both locals and international blaming the rapid spread of the Ebola virus on bad tradition and culture, ignorant and poverty. In as much as I agree that these factors are contributive, the pace of spread of the virus can rather be attributed chiefly to the loss of public confidence and trust in the Sirleaf Empire, lack of competence, greed, the administration own ignorance and acts of denial. These are the key factors undermining the fight against Ebola and the general governance environment. For example, Sierra Leone and Guinea are more entrenched into cultural and traditional practices because of their huge Muslims population compared to Liberia. The simple truth of the matter is Liberia is governed by wicked, insensitive, self-centered and non-responsive leaders. They concealed their wickedness and political criminality by providing false generosity and making hypocritical appointments to secure public support and continue their dehumanization machinery for the sake of protecting their stolen wealth. The resultant effect is what they have hunting them in the form of deep seated anger, frustration and loss in public confidence and trust. In fact, I detest the unfair blame apportionment by Sirleaf and her administration that the population is ignorant and that Liberian are in denial of Ebola for which the fight against the virus is not making progress. Instead, it is Sirleaf and her cronies that have demonstrated more ignorance and denial for Ebola than the poor people. For example, testimonies reported in the papers surrounding the circumstances of Patrick Sawyer following the death of his sister and days before he made his trip to Nigeria shows government knowingly sent him to attend a conference when there were open views and suspicions that he has had contact with his sister. This is a negligence that represents an outright denial, insensitivity and ignorance by the government. These evil geniuses had probably thought that the virus can only victimize poor people. After ignoring the presence of the virus and the lives of poor people that were being taken away for months (February – July, 2014), president Sirleaf only acknowledged the deadliness of the virus when a member of the political circle was pronounced an Ebola victim (in this case Patrick Sawyer) in Nigeria. Since Patrick Sawyer worked in the office with Amara Mohammed Konneh, the proposed head of Sirleaf’s “peekey bank” (Finance and Development Minister) and was also a brother of Julia Duncan Cassel, it was only when she knew the virus could be in her vicinity - what an evil genius. So, a thirty day vacation was announced for “non-essential” public officials to enable her determine who will be the next Ebola victim in the cabinet. Now the second closest person who happens to be the wife of her office staff, she is now making effort to run out of Liberia under the guise of traveling to solicit support to fight Ebola – from whom? That is an escape game because all of the donors are already making donations and no one wants to see such an UNSERIOUS elderly woman who is bent on mistreating and robbing her people of well-being. Until this Ebola outbreak, Sirleaf and her government had neglected the public health sector. As my friend Samuel Jackson said, “Ebola has shown the nakedness of the Empire”. Their hypocrisies and robberies of the administration were manifested through many deceptive and hypocritical tactics to deny the social and economic well-being of Liberians. For example, although the healthcare systems was one of the most funded ministries, Sirleaf and her elite officials traveled abroad on taxpayers sweat even if they got ailed for fever or restless from mere fatigue on chatter flights to seek medication while Liberians are left vulnerable to die from curable diseases. Minister Konneh was reportedly flown on a chatter flight to the US only to treat a fatigue from restlessness. Minister Konneh had a heroic return embraced by a purported paid a crowd comprising the very taxpayers to trek the RIA highway to celebrate his recovery with banners, billboards and T-shirts. Reminiscent of cruelty and a flagrant abuse of the intelligence of Liberians. Angeline Weeks, the then Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunication Authority reportedly got a chattered flight to fly her mother abroad to seek medical attention. Even while healthcare workers continue to complain for better incentives and poor work environment, the Health Minister who was once a presidential aspirant in the 2005 elections, lives in a US$ 30,000 (National Budget, 2013/14) rented apartment which government continues to underwrite for the past nine years. The pattern of insensitivity and wasteful spending is countless and given the circumstances the ultimate option is not only the mitigation of the Ebola crisis but it is also about Madam Sirleaf doing the honorable to quit as she has proven incompetent, lacks leadership and an insensitive elderly woman. Article 64 of the Constitution defines the mechanism for succession so there is absolutely no bridge if she does the ultimate thing by resigning and now. Dan Saryee
