Lots of people love to hate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and the mainstream media constantly mischaracterizes Supreme Court rulings and opinions, what they say, what they mean, and what they were based upon. (And yes, of course its all statist voodoo; you dont need to remind me of that.) But on several occasions--including just now--I have found that Clarence Thomas is the ONLY one who has been on the Supreme Court in a very long time who gives a crap about the original intent of the Constitution. This time the topic is traffic stops. (This came up because of Josie being stopped at a show-me-your-papers Nazi checkpoint not far from where I live.) As authoritarian courts often do, the robe-wearing tyranny apologists have continually fabricated new excuses for whittling away freedom and increasing government power. To wit, the Supreme Court has upheld border checkpoints looking for illegal aliens, and sobriety checkpoints, and conveniently left the door open for (without exactly ruling on) checkpoints for checking licenses and registration. (See Delaware v Prouse and Michigan v. Sitz.) Through all of that, Clarence Thomas is the ONLY one on the Court STILL saying (in his dissenting opinions) that all such checkpoints stopping people without probable cause violate the Fourth Amendment. And of course, thats the sort of thing that makes devout state-worshipers, on the political left and right, love to hate him. So even though hes a statist, and has gone along with authoritarian power on occasion, he is the only one on the Court who is NOT cheering for a complete police state. And that deserves mentioning. So I did.
