Lots on the media with pollies struggling to say what Metadata is. They know perfectly well what it is but they just dont want to say. They dont want to say because they dont want to have to get a warrant before searching your stuff or tapping your communications. They make out that theres nothing in Metadata and you arent being searched or wiretapped. Metadata is any information about information. So some examples: Your name The subject of the message (often this is the entire message) who youre writing to their location if its a reply to a previous message how long before you replied when you sent it where you were when you sent it where the recipient is the length of the message if there are any attachments the names and sizes of the attachments (you could make a case that the attachments arent part of the message and so form metadata) who has written to you what they wrote about (and all the other metadata) the model of the camera you used to take a photo the serial number of the camera (which can tell them when and where you bought it) the name of the photographer the size of the photo your exact GPS co-ordinates when you took the photo the exact time you took the photo title and caption of the photo the software used to write a message who owns that software whos the user of that software how long you took to write the message the time and date you started writing the message the time and date you finished writing the message how many characters and or words in the message which website youve asked to view how long you viewed them for what links you clicked on what forms you filled in sometimes what you wrote in the forms (username/password) where you were when you viewed that page Any other information that the software developer decides to add So yeah, right, no personal information there obviously.
