Louis van Gaal has appointed Albert Stuivenberg, who until recently led the Holland Under-21 team, as an assistant coach at Manchester United, with the move casting further doubt over the futures of Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt. When previously in charge of Holland Under-17s Stuivenberg guided the team to the 2011 and 2012 European Championship and his appointment underlines Van Gaal’s determination to develop and harness United’s youth structure. A club statement said: “Manchester United has made a new coaching appointment with Albert Stuivenberg joining in the role of assistant coach. Albert recently finished as the coach of the Netherlands Under 21 team. In 2011 and 2012, he led the Dutch Under 17 team to their triumphs in the Uefa European Championship. He starts work immediately, working with assistant Manager, Ryan Giggs.”
