Love... And Other Stuff Too! The time has come to get on with the relocation of your little Moppet to wherever in this vast world you’re off to next. Aaaaaaaaaand you’re almost ready to finalize her seemingly endless travel details but now you’ve got to find just the right travel box for her. Well, not only does size matter (you can read more about measuring your pet and selecting the correct size travel box here: dkc.ae/docs/The_Science_of_Travel_Boxes_and_Measuring_Your_Pet.pdf) but so do the quality and construction greatly matter as well. Indeed, there are A LOT of different travel boxes for you to choose from, both wooden and plastic (maybe you already even own one?). But do know that there are certain boxes designed for light transport to cart your furry friend to the vet or to the groomer and that, conversely, there are boxes strong and secure enough to withstand the rigors of aircraft travel. So while your light transport box is probably fine for carrying her to and fro (though not with 100% certainty, so do be careful!), there are several reasons why it would NOT be suitable for air transport, such as hinges and fasteners which are not strong or secure enough (see photo 1 below) and which make both the door and the box itself very susceptible to unexpectedly prying open under moderate pressure. Check out photo 2 for an idea of a more secure door hinge. Of course, one other important factor to consider in the selection of your travel box is that it meets International Air Travel Association (IATA) standards to ensure that it will be accepted by the airline, the details of which you can find on their website (iata.org). In the meantime, take a look at photo 3 to an idea of good travel boxes suitable for the safe relocation of your pet.
