Love of knowledge, value of hard work I hope to see this year as an opportunity to make a fresh start for us all as members of a society that has been through hard and testing times. As parents, I hope we instill tolerance, compassion and principles among our children. As youngsters, I hope we start looking beyond conventions. In addition to becoming great doctors and engineers, how about having our own historians and writers, for the world to see us through our eyes; lawmakers, to rid us of forced authority and build a just society; economists, to bring prosperity; scientists, to make our own discoveries and inventions; artists, to appreciate the unique gifts nature has bestowed upon us; and thinkers, to inspire our people and the world. As school teachers, let us allow the kids to explore the vast expanses of creativity inside their little heads, instead of murdering it. Rather than having them parrot answers to the questions at the end of textbook chapters, instill in them the love of knowledge, passion for life goals, and value of hard-work. As men, I hope we are more kind and respectful to women. I wish for a start right now so that we can have that Kashmir a few years later, where education prevails over literacy, merit and capability over nepotism, favoritism, justice over subjugation, and unity over intolerance.
