Love this movie:) The directors favorite scenes highlight the weakness people on the Autism Spectrum have and why it is so important to teach communication to these kids. For those that are higher functioning, they may be able to read emotions and body language, but just like Adam in the scene, they dont know what to say. I see this with the kids I work with. They my notice someone is upset and verbally say you are upset or even the word upset and it is then teaching them the appropriate verbal response to that situation. A lot of times at work, the kids that are verbal will say words, not sentences and it is figuring out by trial and error what they are really communicating (example - they say water while holding out an empty cup in front of you - so it is determining is he/she saying water goes in cup or wants more water with the latter being the correct one and then teaching them to say I want more water).
