Love your enemies. Christians are called to pray for our enemies. But how is that possible in the midst of so much terror? Only when we have the grace of Christ within us can we learn to pray for those who persecute us. When somebody wrongs us, our first inclination is to seek vengeance. But Christians are called to act differently. Even as our enemies work against us, we need to forgive them as Christ forgave us. We have all heard that we need to love our enemies, but its difficult to understand how its really done. It begins when we choose to forgive someone who simply doesnt deserve it. It may have left the headlines, but the situation in Iraq hasnt changed. Christians and other minorities continue to live in constant fear of ISIS. As much as we see how many of our brothers and sisters being persecuted, we as Christians need to pray for Isis and all the enemies as well. For we are to be like Christ. Love your enemies. Some say it is a philosophy, others say it is an ethical stance, while still others claim it is actually an experience. None of these things really gets to the heart of the matter, however. Each is something a Christian has, but not one of them serves as a definition of what a Christian is. What is Christianity? Christianity has at its core a transaction between a person and God. A person who becomes a Christian moves from knowing about God distantly to knowing Him directly and intimately. Christianity is knowing God. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3 Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray fort them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Luke 6:35 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John 14:23
