#LoveIsLouder: I want to share a story from tonight when I was at the County Line Saloon, a favorite county-themed club of mine. I was exiting the dance floor as a patron decided it was necessary to call me the f word. I could have kept walking and allowed this boy to assert his dominance and be a man as he drank his beer, but I didnt. Instead I stopped and turned to him, asked him want he said (unsurprisingly he corrected himself), and patted him on the shoulder as I told him to have a good night. Apparently I posed such a threat that his girlfriend and friend had to rush to his defense and ask me to go away. I told them to have a good night too. The gentleman on security detail who had noticed the encounter ensured that I was fine, and I let him know that you cant let ignorant people bring you to their level. I could have said any number of things to this boy, but I didnt. Instead I let him know how truly unafraid of him I was by not taking my gaze off of him as he looked for stuff in his truck after following me into the parking lot. And as I got in the taxi, I blew him and his friend a kiss just so they could question their masculinity one more time. Because its not really about everyone liking and approving of me. That is so far from my goal in life. But I will go and act of my accord in my life. I will do me and act independently and interact with others in such a way that I dont need your approval because I can take comfort in knowing that I am acting out of values of Truth and Courage and Honor. I know that at the base of every action I do, I try to always put love first and that any interaction of love and care Ive had with a member of my community is worth more than the sum of every act of ignorance that could attempt to affect me. And no matter what, that is where I will find my happiness while you are reduced to caring more about how some guy in skinny jeans is dancing than your girlfriend who is begging for your attention. Nice try, boo boo.
