Lovecraft Film Fest report #2: Jesus H. Christ, this is the greatest movie EVER! I have never seen people in a horror film as dumb as these morons! They do every single thing they should not and are totally asking for every single bat shit thing that happens to them. Seriously, take the Scooby-Doo gang, minus the dog and plus stop motion monsters beating people to a bloody pulp and you have this film. Its epiiiiiiiic! Of course, I should note that the Criterion Collection has released this film, and there is a reason for that. Technically, there are several innovative things about it. Its the first time I, personally, have ever seen stop motion used in a purely horror context, so there is a little stop motion gore, which is cool. Also the camera work was quite well done, in particular in the exploring the cave sequence, where we have an old guy who is a really bad actor, but comes off as completely off his nut because of that, interspersed with long periods of black screen, the over all effect of which is very disorienting and freaking. Everyone go out and see this movie. I SWEAR you will not regret it. And if you do, theres no help in this world I can give you and well have to part ways.
