Loving the Word of God Psalms 119:97-101 says, “ O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.” There is no doubt that the Psalmist loved God’s Word – the question is why? He tells us it made him wiser than his enemies, more understanding than his teachers, and even the ancients. Because he studied, learned and kept it with him, he increasingly saw its great value in his life, and was motivated to follow it and to reject every evil way. This is still true regarding us as Christians. Those who truly love God’s will are confident that it provides “all the answers we need” for this life. It keeps our feet on the straight path, away from the deceptions of evil, and makes us wiser than our enemies and the “learned men” of our day. What greater reasons do we need to love it as we should? Of course, it leads us to Heaven, too!!! Gene Samford
