Lucas is a thrill-seeker, an enthusiast of BASE jumping: one of the most dangerous sports in the world. While BASE jumping outside Horseshoe Bend last September, Lucas felt his parachute over-rotate in mid-air. He was suddenly thrust against a cliff face, and fell 50 yards to the ground. Life Flight Network brought him to Saint Alphonsus for a multiple surgeries - treating broken bones, a pulverized vertebrae, lacerations, bruised lungs, torn ACLs, spinal cord trauma, and major nerve damage. Lucas spent over a month at Saint Alphonsus, relearning to walk again. Amazingly, since his accident eleven months ago, hes gone back to work; hes even BASE jumping again. For such a terrible accident I feel so incredibly fortunate to have a second chance to do the things I love, he said, and get back up in the air with my friends. Good on you, Lucas!
