Lucy Andrews exhibition launch 30th July 2013 Updated about a week ago Gallerí Gestur/Gallery Guest Farandgallerí/Touring Gallery 30/07/2013 – 26/08/2013 Lucy Andrews Conversations, 2012 Porcelain, dolomite glaze After completion of a BA (Hons) Design Crafts degree and Artist Residency at De Montfort University, Lucy followed her interest in objects and making processes by further pursuing an MA in Museum Studies at the University of Leicester. This collection of pieces expolores the relationship between people and objects, and between the objects themselves. As individual personalities can be loud, soft, brash or gentle, handcrafted objects can mirror these human qualities. When working with clay, the direct manipulation of the material and the creation of an object that can be touched and positioned by others makes it an inclusive, sensuous medium to use. Each miniture porclelain piece has been individually thrown on a potter’s wheel and refined to emphasise the delicate nature of the material. By creating a series of multiples and families, each piece holds a different position within the collective. By incorporating playful angles and the potential for movement, the pot is no longer a static object, but changable, supporting a range of possibilities for arrangements and interactions. Handle and arrange the pieces in a way that is pleasing to you. Are they a family? Are some louder or quieter than others?
