Luke 10:1-11-You Have a Place in Gods Kingdom When Jesus sent His disciples out to bring the Word of God to the people He gave them explicit directions. In Luke 9 it is recorded that Jesus sent the disciples out to tell the people about Him. When they went to a community and that community would not listen to them, they were to dust off their feet and go to another city. After He sent out the 12 He commissioned 72 others because the ‘harvest of souls’ was bigger than they could imagine. The ones sent out were to ‘prepare’ the way for Him and His workers. 72 is an interesting number. 72 is the product of 24 and 3. Jesus would be in the tomb for 3 days or 72 hours before He rose from the dead. 72 In the Bible-from wonderful1/The_Number_72.html 72-Bible References In Numbers 11:14-17 it is recorded about priests who were to assist Moses. These 70, plus Aaron and Moses equal 72 - the 72 who spoke on Gods behalf to the people. Also there were 72 ornaments on the Menorah in the Tabernacle - a symbol of Light- and the oil in it, the Holy Spirit. Also, there were said to be 72 separate pieces of the veil in the Temple which separated the Holy place from the Most Holy Place. All these speak of the transmission of Gods message. Additionally, the Greek Old Testament, the Septuagint was said to have been translated by 72 Hebrew Scholors (six from each tribe) in 72 days....again a transmission of Gods message. Something else, pertinent in our time - the priestly garments are being remade for Temple service. The garment of the High Priest has brass bells and pomogrants woven into its hem. Interestingly, they have decided that 72 of each, alternating around the hem will be used... Inspired? Luke 10:1-11 10:1 After these things, the Lord commissioned seventy-two others and sent them on ahead in pairs to every city and place he was about to go. 2 He said to them, “The harvest is bigger than you can imagine, but there are few workers. Therefore, plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out workers for his harvest. 3 Go! Be warned, though, that I’m sending you out as lambs among wolves. 4 Carry no wallet, no bag, and no sandals. Don’t even greet anyone along the way. 5 Whenever you enter a house, first say, ‘May peace be on this house.’ 6 If anyone there shares God’s peace, then your peace will rest on that person. If not, your blessing will return to you. 7 Remain in this house, eating and drinking whatever they set before you, for workers deserve their pay. Don’t move from house to house. 8 Whenever you enter a city and its people welcome you, eat what they set before you. 9 Heal the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘God’s kingdom has come upon you.’ 10 Whenever you enter a city and the people don’t welcome you, go out into the streets and say, 11 ‘As a complaint against you, we brush off the dust of your city that has collected on our feet. But know this: God’s kingdom has come to you.’ What do these verses mean to us? We are Christ’s voice in the world. How are we to bring Christ’s message of salvation to those around us? First of all, this passage tells us to not ‘badger’ someone into accepting Jesus as their savior. Our job is to bring the Word to people around us and to live the word. Secondly and most import way to bring the Word to people is to live the Word. Christ living in us is the ‘hope of glory’. Colossians 1:27 Common English Bible 27 God wanted to make the glorious riches of this secret plan known among the Gentiles, which is Christ living in you, the hope of glory. My prayer for you today is that you live according to the plans God has for you. Each of us has a place in God’s kingdom. We all have special gifts given to us by God. We are like a great choir singing together as one but each having a voice to sing high or low. Each of us is valuable to God. God’s choir cannot sing in perfect harmony without voices to fit each tone on the musical scale.
