Luke 20:41-44 (ONM) (41) Then He said to them, How do they say the Messiah [Jesus] is a son of David? (42) For David himself says in a scroll of Psalms, The Lord said to my Lord, You must be seated at My right hand, (43) until I would make Your enemies a footstool under Your feet. (Ps. 110:1) (44) So David calls Him Lord, then how is He his son? [Editor’s note: Jesus was talking to the Sadducees whom did not believe in the resurrection. He had already given them multiple explanations which undermined their position of no resurrection and was finishing up this specific discourse by recalling a scriptural event that declares God is a living God of the living. Going back to the Scriptures, which the Sadducees, Scribes and Pharisees held closely, Jesus asked them: how can the Lord the Messiah be a son of David (as He is called) when David himself talked to the Lord the Messiah whom promised to make his enemies his footstool? (This is David of David and Goliath; whom became King David and whom wrote many of the Psalms and whom was a servant of God.) In other words: in what sense can He be both Davids Lord and Davids son? This can only be because the Messiah (Jesus) is the living God, and God describes himself as one who was, is, and always will be, the same. Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore you sons of Jacob [Israel] are not consumed. Today’s message seems to naturally lead to this statement: The covenant that God made with Abraham about His seed is dependent only upon God (God waited for (the then still called) Abram to fall asleep when He then sealed the contract by Himself. Gen 15:17), Thus, not man or what any given man or group of men believe or do not believe impact God’s plan for man’s salvation or for Israel or Jerusalem. Jesus died for our sins. Jesus is Lord and has risen from the dead. Salvation is offered to to both Jew and Gentile who are willing to repent (change their ways) and follow the commands of Jesus. Israel will be saved because it is God’s promise to Abraham in His covenant, and because God has given us the promise of the outcome in His Word. But we do have a period of tribulation coming our way (and for some it is already here. Let us pray for them.). Let us prepare ourselves by learning how to trust Jesus our Lord. Practice daily now so we will be prepared when the really hard stuff comes down the pike (and for some it is already here. Let us pray for them.). Be patient and know this, the worst they can do is take our physical lives. Trust in the one who gives eternal life in the Spirit. Do not cling to this life of corruption which leads to death. Cling to life with the Lord which will be joyful and true and leads to life.]
