Luke 7:31-36, “Jesus said to the crowd, ‘To what shall I - TopicsExpress

Luke 7:31-36, “Jesus said to the crowd, ‘To what shall I compare the people?’” He was obviously frustrated. In the passage preceding today’s, the disciples of John the Baptist have come to Jesus with questions. Jesus admired and loved His cousin John who preached the strongest of messages regarding the life of penance for which he was criticized and eventually cast into prison. John wanted them to hear the message of Jesus. Nothing satisfies these people. Jesus gives them the straight message - John’s way you criticize, my way you criticize, both messages are to bring you back to God, closer to God and your true selves. Do you think Jesus might find some of this attitude in us today? The bishops are too involved in the civil arena, bishops are not involved enough. Bishops should speak more on social issues, bishops should be less in the forefront. They can’t win for losing! We need to listen again to the guidance and teaching of our Church. I know that I need to hear Pope Francis as he speaks to me about the welcoming spirit of Jesus, about simplicity, about implementing every aspect of the Gospel. Do you have any feelings about this? The Christian way is to share. Together we can make a major difference in our society. -- Msgr. John Barry
