Lunchspeak eNews - 2nd October President Campbell Thomson opened today’s meeting and asked Louise Booth and Mark Jory to explain the Contests Workshop to be held on the 12th of October at Wavecrest Toastmasters in the St. Kilda community Centre on Victoria Road in St. Kilda from 2.00 – 5.00pm, followed by an Area council meeting. All members are welcome (more details further down in this newsletter). Campbell also welcomed our newest member David Gadsby, and his guest, his work colleague Lindsey Edwards. Campbell then introduced our Toastmaster Richard Brockwell, who had the meeting theme of ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’. We had 3 short and amusing jokes on the theme from Nanette McKendry, followed by our first speaker. Phil Crowley speaking form the Humorously Speaking manual, Project No. 3 titled “My Karate Years” which wasa an amusing summary of Phil’s efforts at mastering the art of Karate, abd being beaten up by a 12 year old girl! The second speaker was Mark Jory who gave an educational speech titled “Getting the Most out of Toastmasters”. Mark told some of his personal experiences in Toastmasters that he felt were key to his development. They were: - · Attend every meeting you possibly can · Take up Leadership roles within your club · Enter Contests · Get involved in Toastmastes activities outside your club · Attend Area, Division and District convetnions · Take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves Tabletopics was lead by Louise Booth who kept to the theme and had the following topics for speakers: - Chris Jones – Should Duneidn have a cycleway? Campbell Thompson – What do you uthink of Duneidn’s public transport? Kylie Robinson – Where would you go if you could travel through time? Sophie Gibson – What mode of transport would you want to use in 20 years’ time? Ray Leckie – What is your favourite mode of transport? Kylie Robinson evaluated Richard as Toastmaster, Tim Gosling evaluated Phil’s speech, Nanette McKendry evaluated Mark’s speech, and Joe Chapman evaluated Tabletopics. Mark Jory was the General Evaluator and commended each Evaluator for following the commend, recommend, commend evaluation method. Chris Jones was the Grammarian and Um/Aah counter, Campbell Thomson tested our listening, Wim van Schie completed 4 CL manual evaluations, Sophie Gibson was the Timekeeper, and Sara Larcombe was the vote counter. Next week’s Toastmaster is Kylie Robinson.
