Burns Hall, Room 4005 (4th floor) With: Governor Lukas Enembe (Governor of the Indonesian Province of Papua) Dr. Karel Sesa (Rector, University of Cenderawasih) Mr. Johan Kafiar (President Director of the Bank of Papua) Dr. Charles Ong Saerang (President Director of PT Nyonya Meneer) Moderated by Dr. Charles E. Morrison (President, East-West Center) Papua (formerly part of the province known as Irian Jaya) is a resource-rich province in Indonesia that has been governed as a special autonomous area since 2001. Elected early this year by a landslide, Governor Enembe has identified improving the education system in Papua as one of his administration’s main goals. The panel will discuss the importance of building capacity in the education sector to improve the socioeconomic conditions and status of the Papuan people. It will explore a range of policy options including making investments in education and economic partnerships with institutions in the region.
