Lung surgery is done!!!!!!! Surgery began at 1:15 and ended somewhere around 3:30 or 4:00. He ended up having 6 clusters of nodules rather than the three spots we thought originally. The largest being the size of a kidney bean. The surgeon felt before she opened him up that she would find more than the three and she was right. She was able to go in on his left side and remove them all. They were all located in the lower lobe of his left lung, which is good. Not spread throughout!!!! She removed part of his lung that would be equivalent to about half the size of a hot dog. She said it should cause him no issues long term. She felt the surgery went swimmingly well , as she put it!!!!! Only slight surprise was a spot in the rib cage area! She doesnt think it is anything to be alarmed about, but removed it and it will be biopsied He has a drainage tube coming from his chest and he is in significant pain at this time. He is being given a lot of meds to help control it. We are hoping and praying that every cancer cell has now been removed from his body!! He will be in the hospital for 5-7 days and then should re-start chemo next week. The extended chemo is being used to kill any random cancer cells that could be floating in his body that is too small to identify at this time. Overall, at this time we would say the surgeries have both been very successful and that that the abundance of prayers have truly been answered. Sid was so incredibly calm and at peace this morning waiting for the surgery that he actually fell asleep for about two hours before they took him into the operating room!!!! Had to wake him up so they could take him back and put him to sleep!!!!! Lynn and I want to thank all for the prayers and concerns showed for him. Again, he still has a long road ahead, but he has taken two huge steps ahead over the past 12 days. God is amazingly awesome and Sid is very loved!! Sid is pretty awesome too!
