Lydia Mcmac posted a very comprehensive list of issues from the west end, and every civic leader should have some knowledge about these and other issues in their wards so that they can form an intelligent opinion, and discuss them with constituents. I would also like to add an issue: that of animal welfare, which includes pets, community cats, and wildlife. We have some councilors and mayoral candidates who see these as areas from which to cut funding, yet National statistics imply that close to 65% of people in this city are pet owners, and that 90% of people have concerns about the safe and humane handling of wildlife. How important are the existing animal services to you? What additional services would serve the community needs better? How can we best address this with the candidates, not only so that we can see where they stand, but so that they can see how the community feels?
