Lyurot Festival, Mangiyan ngiyan! Spending our weekend at Golden Valley, Mabini thru their Lyurot Festival. Lyurot is food cooked in a bamboo. It can be Lyurot rice (called Yumbol), Lyurot fish, meat, frog, kasili, whatever! Lyurot in the olden times is an offering to Mansakas Matikadongs (warriors) before theyre being sent off to war, thus, called as the warriors food. But nowadays, Lyurot is a special food cooked for gatherings like thanksgiving and local celebrations eaten together by the community members. The Lyurot festival of Golden Valley is already on its 6th year and we have adopted this community since 2010 (our 5th year this year). Adoption means annual budget allocation for this tradition to continue. This is the only on-site authentic cultural festival where majority of the barangay residents are Mansaka. Special component of this festival is the traditional competition of their music and dances like dyawot/ dawot (chanting), mansaka dances, kudlong playing, sumpitan (dart thru blowing), bungot (wrestling) and alot more. Thankful to our traveling friends from DavNor and DavOr, the Photography Club of Tagum, IDS and other guests.
