MA Drama (Theatre and Young People) & MA Drama (Contemporary - TopicsExpress

MA Drama (Theatre and Young People) & MA Drama (Contemporary Theatre Practices) at the University of Worcester Applications open for start in September 2013. Both courses have a significant practical element and include opportunities to work with professional partners on performance projects. We are looking for high quality applicants who have experience of performance practice through their BA Degree and/or professional work and who also have a deep interest in the ideas and theories that inform contemporary theatre today. The courses are designed with practitioners and drama teachers in mind and they can be studied on a part time basis over two years. The majority of the taught sessions can be taken in the evenings – the timetable is flexible and could involve on average one or two sessions per week. The MA provides an excellent CPD opportunity as well as introducing you to national professional and academic networks. There are a still a few places left for the courses starting this September, so if you are interested in applying please do get in touch. We would also be grateful if you could pass this information on to any of your colleagues who may be interested. The course fee is £4,630, which means you could upgrade your academic qualifications to MA status for just over half the amount that a BA will cost for one year. The course can be studied on full-time (1 YEAR) OR part-time (2 YEAR) basis. Please note the course is modular and leads to a Masters degree (9 modules). Students who wish to take a reduced number of modules may obtain a Post Graduate Certificate (3 modules) or a Post Graduate Diploma (6 modules). Current students include both recent graduates from universities across this country and abroad and people who are returning to study after some years in employment. Here’s what current students are saying about the course: "If you are interested in creating work that is innovative and inspiring, this is the course for you. You are guaranteed to be put through your paces, but is highly rewarding at the end" Hayley Trust, full time student (2012-13) now employed at Roses Theatre Tewkesbury, a job secured after doing a placement there as part of the course "This is not only a valuable qualification but a part of my development and creative journey as a theatre maker. The tutors have strong academic foundations to their work as well as practical performance experience. They teach you how to shape and mould performance work that responds to the theories and issues studied whilst adding depth and maturity to your work." Oliver Ward, part time student (2012-14) who has been offered various drama teaching and project leading paid work as a spin-off from doing the course. My professional practice had been reinvigorated by studying the MA. I returned to study after a long break and have soon found my feet as a part time student balancing work and family life alongside assignments. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I have been thoroughly absorbed and inspired by the course. It has given me the confidence to take more theatrical risks with my work and the ability to back up my choices with theory. Julie Fisher, part time mature student (2012-14), has written and directed a play for children on the course - now touring professional venues.
