MAAT issues a report to analyze the UPR results Most of the stakeholders reports are issued by foreign organizations – women and freedom to organize are leading the states recommendations 22-11-2014 In the context of its participation in Egypt session within the Universal Periodic Review held on 5 November 2014 in the framework of the 20th session for the EU Human Rights Council session, Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights issued an analytical report entitled the results of Egypt submission to the Universal Periodic Review..November 2014 – analytical view in light of CSOs participation and states recommendations. The report provided statics and analytical presentation for the submitted reports and statements by the Egyptian and foreign organizations and coalitions, revealing that 54% of the submitted reports were issued by foreign organizations, when 46% of the submitted reports were provided by Egyptian organizations. The report also offered a quantitative analysis for the most significant recommendations addressed to Egypt during the interactive discussion session where the women rights came in the first place by 14%, followed by the right to organize by 11%. The report recommended the necessity to increase capacity for Egyptian civil society organizations in the field of communication with human rights protection mechanisms, it called the Egyptian government to adopt a national strategy in cooperation with civil society organizations to guarantee combating all forms of violence against women, including setting legislative measures and tightening sanctions. Along with administrative and political measures responsive to gender and combating discrimination on the basis of gender. It also called the government to change the nongovernmental organizations law to be consistent with the 2014 constitution and Egypts international commitments via an effective, and transparent community dialogue, on the basis of respect to law and state sovereignty. The report urged the Egyptian government to call for open and institutional dialogue with civil society organizations during the previous period to respond to recommendations, in order to put the main features for a national strategy aiming at promoting human rights according to the UPR outcomes.
