At 2:00pm AEST, thunderstorms are being detected on Bureau of Meteorology weather radar within the local area. Thunderstorms are being detected with numerous cloud-to-cloud lightning strikes and these are now developing cloud-to-ground strikes. MACKAY RESIDENTS: This thunderstorm has the potential to affect Mackay. Thunderstorms are currently (at 2:00pm) located approximately: • 11 km west of Marian • 23 km northwest of Eton • 25 km west of Walkerston • 36 km west of Mackay These storms are heading in a EASTERLY direction at approx. 30 km/h. These thunderstorms have the POTENTIAL to affect: • MARIAN • WALKERSTON • MIRANI • MACKAY • ETON • AREAS IN BETWEEN THOSE MENTIONED ABOVE These thunderstorms have the potential for the following RISKS: • SOME LIGHTNING STRIKES (POSSIBLY INCREASING TO FREQUENT) • VERY HEAVY RAINFALL • GUSTY WINDS (non-damaging) Note: This is unofficial advice issued by Mackay & District Weather Updates.
