MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (April 6, 2014) – An off-duty police officer was arrested on OWI charges after a fatal accident Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred around 12:20 p.m. in the 7500 block of State Road 32 West. Edgewood Police Officer James Foutch was driving a GMC Yukon WB on SR 32 when he rear-ended a Buick Century. The force of the impact pushed the Buick Century off the north side of the roadway and into a utility pole. Foutch was uninjured; his passenger was transported to St. Vincent Hospital Anderson with complaint of pain. Rebecca and Jesse Sperry. Photo courtesy of YouCaring Rebecca Marie Sperry, the driver of the Buick, was nine months pregnant, and she was transported by Stat Flight Medical Helicopter with severe injuries to St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis. Her husband, Jesse, –the passenger in the Buick–was pronounced dead at the scene. Later Sunday night, Rebecca Sperry gave birth to a baby girl via emergency C-section, according to family members on a YouCaring page dedicated to the couple. Foutch was transported to St. Vincent Hospital Anderson for a blood draw, and he was later arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death. He posted the required $20,000 bond.
