MAGGIE SUE’S DOGMATIC THEOLOGY (10/12) My Dad says that October is the Month of the Rosary! Last Tuesday’s Mass was the “Feast of the Lady of the Rosary.” I’ve been wondering just exactly what is this prayer. This is what I found out: What is the rosary? Very simply put, the rosary is a popular Catholic devotion meditating on the life of Jesus Christ while repeating prayers, all of which are scripture-based. As many believe, the rosary is not a prayer “to” Mary, the Mother of Christ, but rather a prayer “through” Mary, depending upon her intercession (and that of all the saints) to plead our needs before God our Father. Yes, it is a shortcut to go directly to God in our prayers, but in the busy-ness of our lives, it is a comfort to know that the intercession of Mary is a constant for us. Amen?! The rosary is thoroughly scripture-based, focusing on the events in the life of Jesus and that of Mary the Mother of Jesus, beginning with Mary’s “yes” to God as the Mother of Jesus, through the life of Christ, his teachings, his passion, crucifixion and glorious resurrection! The rosary has been around for centuries and continues to be a powerful and inspiring prayer for millions today. I hope it may inspire all of you. Wouldn’t it be the coolest if it would inspire even the squirrels? Send your theological questions to maggiesueadam@gmail
