MAJOR SCHOOL BOY ERROR ALERT!! James Hall you were very lucky tonight as I may have passed you in miles and ranking, if it were not for a Major school boy error. Following the punctures on yesterdays mammoth ride I took a trip to Halfords today to purchase new inner tubes. Not a problem, I knew the size, width, diameter etc. I even knew the depth of my wheels, obviously needing the longer valve stem. I asked the shop assistant and he advised me what I needed. Perfect!!! With that I set out on my ride, heading for about 30 - 35 miles. On the return journey home I hit a pot hole quite hard (as I did yesterday) but the inner tube stayed intact. Phew I thought, then hit another one straight after (hard to see in the dark) bang!! back wheel went. Oh no (I thought) Ive never changed THE BACK WHEEL before. Anyway, after torch held in mouth, rain pouring down, I managed to change yet another tyre (after getting it off the chain etc) refitted, ready to pump up. Well............. Ill be punching the guy at Halfords hard in the face tomorrow as the valve stem on the inner tube he said would be correct wasnt long enough and the the pump wouldnt fit on!!! Tried all sorts. In the end, admitted defeat and had to call the Mrs to come and pick me up (She wasnt impressed). Lesson learnt. Check you gear is present and correct before setting off!! Other than that, I would be in front for the first time :( Haha. newbybiker
