MALAGA GROUP WEATHER UPDATE Thursday 7th July 2014: Good morning on another mighty fine day in the Spanish south!!!......Well day 1 went well for the group.....didnt use the delete button once!!!....... A few areas to cover today including our weather, a note on what be happening for friends back home in the UK, France and northern half of Europe, and then a chat about this group and getting the emergency info rolling in nicely!!!.......But first a massive welcome to you all. Many of you know me from old on Facebook but we do have some newbies that havent a clue who or what this is about......and we aint gonna tell you as it doesnt matter anymore. Just welcome, take from the group what info is relevant to you and join in what we hope will be a community spirit!!!......more later on this!!! So to our current weather forecast and yes, you newbies will be thinking Forecast???......Why for we want a forecast in August???.......The simple answer is that the weather has a nasty habit of creeping up and biting you on the bum when your backs turned and there has been numerous occasions in previous years when in the height of the summer the weather has turned. So, my job here on this group is to watch over you all as best I can and to do this I give a forecast......simples!!!......So today it will be sunny!!!.......There. That was easy and hopefully painless for you all!!!........If only our weather was that simple!!!.......Actually, it is going to be sunny. There remains a risk of cloud building off shore along the western costa and this again could just push on shore giving some nice cool cloud cover but not expecting it to push to far if it does.......However, do be aware that on the Eastern Costa del Sol and including its inland areas, you may just wake in the morning to cloud cover but dont panic......it will burn off quickly and that heat will envelope you!!!.......The foreseeable weather future through next week and the weekend after remains with no obvious weather threat and that sun should continue to shine!!!.......But the big talking point is the un-obvious threat of high temperatures this coming weekend!!!.....It may sound daft to most but we are expecting the air temperatures to rise from the low 30s (thats new money -Celcius.....we are metricated here you know!!!) up to the upper 30s with a possibility of seeing the 40 degree mark breached in sheltered areas up the Guadalhorce Valley. This rise of no more than 4, 5 or even 6 degrees may not seem much but combine it with a suspected rise in the humidity and the feel of that heat is greater. Please dont be complacent even if youve lived here for years, been there, seen it, brought the Sombrero!!!.......If you fail to compensate by seeking more shade than normal, covering up, drinking more fresh water etc. then even the hardest and fittest of folk could start to show signs of heat stroke.....something we shall address tomorrow as an edjumacation topic!!!.......But more importantly, do watch your guests if you have any visiting family or friends, particularly children and us aged types and us overweight types.......and remember to slap that suntan on the bald patch which I often forget to do and only realise when I stand at the side of the road and the traffic stops!!!......And please dont forget about your pets and livestock in this heat. They too can suffer badly if neglected!!!.......So, Saturday and Sunday south of the coastal mountain ranges we are looking at this heat. Up in the mountains and on the plains of Ronda & Malaga we just might be looking at an opposite affect with those temperatures cooling to drop below the 30 mark. Yesterday I did raise an unofficial EiALERT WEATHER WARNING for this high heat but I am withdrawing it as it now does not look to extend into next week.....Big Bertha is looking to keep us weather forecasters busy!!!.....Again, more on that shortly, but as stated that sunshine will reign supreme. We will see some high winds pick up in the far west of the province as we proceed into the weekend but they are used to it in Manilva thats why they are all crooked!!!.....(due to leaning into the wind but you can take it anyway you want!!!) So thats you current outlook in sunny Spain but for those who have family, friends, enemys, bosses or, like myself chose to drag their hot bodies back to cooler climes for a vacation, there is Big Bertha flying in from the good ole US of A to gives us something to cry about. If you havent been keeping abreast of the news BERTHA remains a nasty post tropical storm and is currently forecast to track across the Upper Mid Atlantic, remain relatively intact as the waters are warmish, and make land fall either Southern England or Upper Western France or anywhere in between.....see attached graphic. I must stress that this group is concerned with events in and around Malaga Province but as we are all from various parts of Europe and have contacts across a huge chunk of the world its only fair that when a large event is in the offing we reflect on it.....particular as it might interfere with my holiday!!!...... The best forecast I can give on big B at this time is that she will break up further before hitting landfall thus collapsing the winds to a more manageable level. She will remain though a post tropical weather event.....not so much a storm, but a threat just the same. She will be pushing much moisture up the English Channel and people in Cornwall, Devon and much of the south of the UK, people in Normandy, the Brest Pininsular and north west France should be prepared for moderate risk of flooding from this during the day Sunday. From there on not so big Bertha will build strength as it passes over and leaves landfall to head up the coast of the Nederlands (no real risk expected but may cause tidal surge) and at this time I have her turning to a more northerly track with a current risk of significant weather pushing into the Southern tip of Norway late Monday afternoon......but this is a forecast and shes a big woman and I have never managed to get a woman to listen to a thing I say so she will do what she wants so we shall continue to watch her and update you in the morning!!! And lastly, let stalk shop!!!.....we are less than 48 hours old and we already have a huge membership. Although I appreciate the thanks and support and everyone liking my weather etc, as was the case in the previous group this really is not about me. It is about us all and the sharing of information relevant to our safety whether that be posting up live events such as floods, fire, earthquakes, traffic accidents causing disruption or any other event likely to cause an issue to one or more members, or posting forecasts such as the weather, or, posting general safety information. Providing its factual then we should, and if we all learn from it then so be it. But, as a community of fb friends we should feel free to chat under a relevant thread if we see fit. Do not squeeze in advertising and where possible try and keep it on topic. the IMPORTANT thing is that this info needs to come from its members. I am doing my bit and will add, you guys and girls can add as you see fit and please dont think for one minute that the weather aspect is a closed shop. I would more than welcome input, suggestion, criticism from any quarter.......after all, it is the weather I choose to forecast but often think it would be easier to forecast winning lottery numbers......it will trip me up like it trips the best forecasters in the world from time to time but it does appear that I must be doing something right!!!.....So please, all you members who know how this all works, lets see you back to normality watching each others backs, being vigilant for wild fire, sensing the earth moving for you and posting up relevant info!!! Thank you all again, sorry it was a long one today and great to be a mere member along side you all.......Jim Fraser for the EiALERT NETWORK :)
