MALONE CAMPAIGN FILES COMPLAINT WITH FEC AND THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT OVER GLITCH CHARLOTTE AMALIE, ST. THOMAS - The Malone for Congress Campaign has filed an official complaint with the Federal Election Commission and the United States Justice Department Office of Special Counsel against the use of official Government of the Virgin Islands email addresses collected on the official website of the Government of the Virgin Islands by Congressional Candidate Stacey Plaskett. In the complaint the Malone campaign contends, On or about Wednesday, July 2, a political email was widely circulated to people, including thousands of government employees at their official government email addresses and others at private email addresses. Attorney Plasketts access to and use of this official government platform vastly expanded the reach of her previously circulated campaign email distributions. Using such tactics for political advertising is prohibited under Federal Election Law. Moreover, the sharing of names collected by the official Government database is in direct violation of an individuals privacy and is also in direct violation of the privacy policy prominently displayed and described on the Governors official website, according to the Malone complaint. The Malone for Congress Committee requested that the Federal Election Commission and the U.S. Justice Department, Office of Special Counsel immediately investigate these clear violations. The complaint further requests that the candidate be enjoined from further violations and be fined the maximum amount permitted by law. Senate President Shawn-Michael Malone expressed dismay at what he described as further evidence of the unethical tactics employed by the Plaskett campaign. We need to set a higher standard, he said. I previously stated there was an organized effort to misinform voters and the falsehoods foisted on Virgin Islanders contained within that email are as troubling to me as the possibly illegal path it took getting to their inboxes.
