MAN, 30, IN COURT FOR ALLEGED FRAUD The Police on Friday arraigned Mohammed Suraju, 30, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for defrauding a businessman. Monday Audu of ECWA Church 2, Zuba, reported the matter at the Wuse Police Station, Abuja, on July 29. Police prosecutor, Cpl. Gideon Ekomson told the court that the accused, of Behind Nitel Pole in Madala, Niger, collected the money in May under false pretence that he was going to introduce the complainant to `the latest business in the town.’ The prosecutor added that the accused collected the money in the company of two other persons now at large. Ekomson said the accused attempted to commit the same crime with the same person at Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, when he was arrested. According to the prosecutor, the accused is charged with joint act and cheating, contrary to Section 79 and 322 of the Penal Code. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Senior Magistrate Chukwuemeka Ubani granted him bail in the sum of N30,000 with a reasonable surety in like sum. Ubani said the surety must show a receipt, as an evidence of payment of house rent within the court’s jurisdiction or a verifiable place of work. He adjourned the matter to Sept. 15 for hearing.
